This week, we’re announcing our first event: Arcade Challenge!

Arcade Challenge is a 48-hour development marathon in which teams will have a weekend to create a simple mobile title. Out of a list of ten genres, teams will pick one and develop a game using Unity and C# that is lightweight, quick, and most importantly, fun. Basically, it’s a game jam with the potential for the winners to be so much more. We love to see the passion of game developers hard at work, so why not create a space for that?

The opportunity to make a game in a weekend isn’t all we’re providing—we’re giving away $5,000 in prizes to developers who participate. Once Sunday rolls around, we’ll judge each game. 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place will all win prize money, with the 1st place grand prize being $2,500! Even if your team doesn’t make it in the top 3, everyone will get a free prize just for attending. Plus, we’ll have free food all day Saturday to keep your appetite satisfied.

Many of you who are thinking of coming down to Whitewater for this event are either students or amateur devs, and we’re offering something else with huge potential for aspiring talent like you. Every team has the potential to have their game published in our next upcoming mobile title. If we like your game a whole lot, we’ll be including it in a future title of ours, and you’ll get full credit for your inclusion. Basically, you have a chance to have a shipped game that you made in a weekend!

On to the technical stuff: The game has to be developed in Unity with C#, but don’t worry if you’re not experienced in that development environment. Team size will be 4-5, so even if you’re not sure where you’re going to fit in, we’ll help you find the right team. There will be many attendees that come without teams, so whatever your skills are, there is a spot for you. Another requirement is that you have to upload your game to a repository in Bitbucket. We’ll have Brandon Korth, one of our interns, on the floor to help you with this during the jam.

And that’s about all you need to know for Arcade Challenge! If you have any more questions, feel free to email me or Brandon for more information. We hope to see you there!
